Taipa Area School is looking for an enthusiastic, culturally responsive educator to join our team in the beautiful Far North. This is a maternity leave position covering a diverse and engaging portfolio within our Junior Secondary space.
We are seeking a teacher to pick up the hoe and navigate our Year 9 and 10 students toward success. This role is primarily focused on English and Social Sciences, with a touch of Health. You will be stepping into a well-supported environment, taking over a timetable that currently includes:
- Year 9: English, Social Science, and Health.
- Year 10: English.
As a teacher at a composite area school, you will play a critical role in mentoring a diverse group of students who primarily whakapapa to Ngāti Kahu. Our vision, “Kia ngā tahi te hoe kia whakatere ki uta,” drives everything we do.

- Curriculum Strength: Solid knowledge of the NZ Curriculum in English and Social Sciences.
- Pedagogy: Ability to deliver engaging, innovative lessons that resonate with Year 9 and 10 learners.

- Relationship Focused: Someone who prioritizes strong partnerships with whānau to enhance student learning and well-being.

While English and Social Sciences are the core of this role, we are a collaborative “all-through” school. Please state any additional teaching strengths or interests in your application, such as:

Maths achievement at Taipa Area School has been outstanding, and we seek an innovative, enthusiastic teacher with substantial experience in NCEA Mathematics to continue this momentum. Our Maths Department is collegial and well-resourced, focused on a relational approach to deliver engaging lessons that inspire mathematical literacy and critical thinking. Management units are likely negotiable, depending on experience and ability to take on the role of leader of learning for mathematics, Y9-13.
