6 Management Units (MU)

At Taipa Area School, our vision – “Kia Ngātahi te Hoe, Kia Whakatere te Waka ki Uta” (Navigate Together for Success) – was proudly shaped by our community and guides everything we do. It reflects our commitment to fostering a sense of belonging, safety, and achievement for every student while embracing the rich heritage and strength of our Ngāti Kahu iwi.
We are seeking a dynamic deputy principal to join our leadership team. Senior leadership experience is preferred, but not essential. The successful candidate will be passionate about fostering meaningful relationships and modelling whanaungatanga and restorative practice.
You’ll be someone who brings deep cultural competency, a strong understanding of Mātauranga Māori, and a commitment to enabling Māori to achieve as Māori. This leadership role also carries responsibility for promoting school-wide pedagogical growth, wellbeing, and inclusive, transdisciplinary learning experiences – both within our kura and through authentic partnerships with our local hapu and iwi.
Specific portfolios will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
Why Taipa Area School?
Our location – right on the beach in Taipa, Doubtless Bay – provides a truly unique open-air classroom. Immediate access to the ocean, estuary, and local whenua offers our students unparalleled opportunities for hands-on, meaningful education.
Innovative courses – Te Ao Māori integrated with many subjects, including music, hospitality, trades, adventure tourism, marine biology, pest control, and the arts, all reflect our belief in authentic, place-based learning.
We live and breathe three strong values – Manaakitanga, Painga, and Mahitahi – creating a safe, supportive environment for both ākonga and kaiako.
A school house may be available with this position.
