House & Whanau Groups

PAINGA

We work for positive outcomes

MANAAKITANGA

We show respect for ourselves and others

MAHITAHI

We work together as a team

From 2019, Year 1 to 13 students have been arranged into three whanau houses which are named after our school values: Manaakitanga (Respect), Mahitahi (Teamwork) and Painga (Positive) are the values we hold dear to our philosophy of “By Perseverance Achieve”.

Each whanau class has students from Year 1 to 13 and has been set up to embrace tuakana- teina relationships, which encourages older children (tuakana) to care for the young ones (teina) and to occasionally assist in their learning activities and for younger children to accept the guidance of their older peers. The whanau teacher will stick with their class throughout their time at Taipa Area School. We see this as creating a strong learning-focused link between school, student and family.
